The editor of the Newf-FLA Paw Prints Newsletter needs you!

The economy has hit all of us in ways profound and mundane. I would like to ask everyone to send an email to editor@newffla.com and tell me about the ways that this economic situation has forced you to reduce or reallocate the money spent on your dogs' food, toys, incidentals, comptetition in conformation, obedience - or any activity that you normally would do that you no longer do because it has gotten too expensive. I would also love ideas if you have found creative solutions to the lack of money that you would like to share.

Please submit your thoughts, ideas and solutions by 8/15/2010. I will compile and edit what I gather, and present it as a feature for the next edition of the Paw Prints newsletter. Let's share some ideas on how to have fun with your Newf and save money!

In March at the Annual Membership Meeting in Brandon, Florida.


The Mary Beth Norman Award for all around excellence for the Newfoundland breed was awarded to Gerri Willis.



The Newf-FLA Rescue Award for 2010 was awarded to Kristi Calleja.


The Extra Mile Award was awarded to Denise Rodenbough.

Newf-FLA members received recognition and small handmade plaques for their reported achievements and titles for the year.


Thanks to Bonnie Giacovelli for coordinating and making the plaques. Congratulations to all award recipients, titlists, and other achievements!

Although not a very successful draft test from a qualifier viewpoint, Newf-FLA were able to add a new test site to their rotation. On Saturday the qualifiers were:-


Left to Right: Judge Sue Raney, Janice Hoffenberg and Diva, Gerri Willis and her team of Henley and Stella, Gordita (handled by Gerri Willis) and Wanda Clifford, and Judge Martin Vroegryk.


On Sunday Janice decided to requalify Diva and was kind enough to allow us to mount a camera on the cart. Now we can show you her successfully complete the maneuvering from the Sunday test.

Congratulations to our new Newfoundland Club of Florida President George Norman! Congratulations also to Nancy Aliff as Vice President, Jane Byers as Secretary, and Jan Sowers as Treasurer. Gerri Willis will be serving as Newf-FLA's Executive Advisor, as our past club President.

Each Officer will be serving a two-year term, effective April 1, 2010. A hearty thank you goes out to each of our Club Officers for serving the club and its members. It takes a lot of personal time and commitment to serve as an officer, and the club appreciates each of your efforts. Thanks also to everyone who voted and who is involved with our club.We are at the height of our membership, and we can do great things for the Newfoundland breed! Stay involved! There were also several awards made at the meeting so stay tuned for another announcement and some photos!! Thanks to all!!

It will be at the Days Inn Historic in St. Augustine, our new host hotel. The hotel is blocking a small amount of rooms for our members on that weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) at the price we will pay at parade time, which will be $65 a night plus a $10 pet fee per night per dog. If you would like to come and help with the planning and check out our new location, we would love to have you.

The hotel is located at 1300 Ponce de Leon Blvd. (US-1) about 1 mile south of SR 16. You can call for reservations at 904-824-3383 and be sure to tell them you are with the Newfoundland Club of Florida.

If you are not a club member, you are still welcome to attend the meeting and get to know everyone. For more information, you can call me at 904-737-7337.

The purpose of this survey is to gather important health information including what new diseases may be occurring in the breed, what diseases are important to the respondents and what the perception of NCA health information and the NCA message regarding health is. This survey is open to anyone who has owned a Newfoundland in the last five years, and we encourage you to participate. The survey is constructed to limit surveys to one per computer. Also- several questions ask you to determine which co-owner will report on co-owned dogs, if you co-own dogs with multiple people, please connect with them in the near future and plan who will be reporting on which dogs so we avoid duplications in the data.There is a "dry" copy of the survey for you to review prior to taking the actual survey- this will allow you to collect any information needed and should cut down your actual time taking the survey .
